Writing Workshop at Broadbeach Library

I had a lovely time running a writing workshop at Broadbeach Library on 19 June. The topic was writing dialogue, and this is something I’m really interested in. I think that the best dialogue sounds natural, but cleaner than real speech. (Authors cut a lot of the ums and ers.) Creating a back-and-forth between characters is tremendous fun, and helps to reveal who they are!
It was great to have Josh along for the day, and to meet fellow author KR Clarry, who attended the workshop. KR Clarry and I were both in a purple kind of mood! 🙂

Novel publication

EXCITING NEWS!
Some of you already know, but I’m thrilled to announce that my young-adult novel Within the Ward will be published by Rhiza Edge in October. I began writing this novel in 2015, as part of my doctoral studies at USC: University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia. The upcoming release still feels surreal, because it’s a dream come true. A huge, heartfelt thanks to Rochelle Stephens and the Rhiza Edge team, and to Ross Watkins – Author & Illustrator, Paul Williams, and the BRAIDERs at USC. My family and friends are amazing, so thank you very, very muchly for all your support and love.
Within the Ward is about Paige Newell, a 17-year-old who is immersed in a dream reality to cure her depression. The novel stems from my love of narratives like The Matrix and Divergent, and from my desire to help overcome the stigma towards mental health issues through stories. Here’s the cover (artwork by the talented Tatiana Lawton). Stay tuned for updates about the launch!
